Warminster

Warminster a former staging post on several old coaching routes is now a centre for Army training. It holds a weekly open-air market every Friday and a Farmers Market monthly. Warminster's Central Pleasure Grounds has a fine boating lake that is also used to sail pond yachts.

There is excellent walking around nearby Shearwater lake and Longleat Forest and mysterious Cley Hill. The views from Heaven's Gate of Wiltshire and Somerset are stunning. Paul Norris' granite sculpures  can be viewed at Heaven's Gate. Generally the countryside south of the town is designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and its open spaces are frequently used for cyclists, horse-riders and hang gliders.

For fishing you may wish to organise a permit for fishing on the River Wyle, and anglers are welcome at Shearwater lake.
